OUGD504 - Studio brief 01 - Research

As I've already looked into city guides and how design is presented within a city, a helpful piece of research is to see how a certain location is celebrated, like I will celebrate design in Amsterdam. A useful source is Flaneur magazine, Flaneur is a nomadic, independent magazine focussing on one street per issue. The magazine embraces the street’s complexity, its layers and nature with a literary approach. The content of the magazine is produced with and for Flaneur by artists of all disciplines while the team spends two months on location. It is made using a collaborative, impulsive and unconventional approach.

What I found most helpful during researching Flaneur was when they were in Rome for the fourth issue, they found the city boring so in response they picked the most touristy and obnoxious street in the capital and managed to find something new in it. I found this helpful as my concept is about not parading a touristy stereotype but it supports how you can take saturated content and possibly refresh it like Flanuer did with the Rome edition.
